Dr. Yackel is currently the president of MCV Physicians, the faculty practice plan of VCU Health System. He also serves as senior associate dean for clinical affairs in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Prior to joining MCV, Dr. Yackel served as the chief health information officer for the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) for 10 years.
Currently, Dr. Yackel’s professional interests include caring for complex adult patients, teaching and promoting the use of clinical information systems, and administrative medicine.
Dr. Yackel graduated from George Washington University in 1996 with Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees. He continued his education as a primary care internal medicine resident at George Washington University Hospital and served as chief resident. In 2002, he completed a fellowship and Master of Science in medical informatics at OHSU. He is a practicing primary care internist and is board certified in internal medicine and clinical informatics.
